Psychology Fees and Medicare Rebates

A standard psychology appointment is $220 (50 minutes).

Clients with an eligible Mental Health Treatment Plan and valid referral may receive a Medicare rebate of $101.55, reducing the out-of-pocket cost to $118.45 per session.

Private appointments are available without a referral.

Eligible clients may also access Medicare-funded psychological treatment under an Eating Disorder Treatment and Management Plan or Mental Health Treatment Plan.

Medicare rebates depend on eligibility, the service provided and the applicable Medicare item number.

Payment: is due at the time of the appointment.  You can pay by EFT (Electric Funds Transfer) or use STRIPE online.

Cancellations: Appointments cancelled or rescheduled with less than 24 hours’ notice, or not attended, incur the full session fee. Medicare and private health rebates do not apply to cancellation fees. Exceptional circumstances may be considered.

Mental Health Treatment Plan

Eligible clients can access Medicare rebates for up to 10 individual psychology sessions per calendar year with a valid Mental Health Treatment Plan and referral from a GP, paediatrician, or psychiatrist.

To access a Medicare rebate:

  1. Book an appointment with your GP, psychiatrist or paediatrician.

  2. Ask whether a Mental Health Treatment Plan is appropriate.

  3. Request a referral to Diaita Psychology.

  4. Send your referral before your first appointment.

Rebates are generally processed after payment of the full consultation fee.  Your referring practitioner can review your progress and determine whether further sessions are appropriate within Medicare requirements.

Please speak with your GP or treating specialist to determine whether an Eating Disorder Treatment and Management Plan is appropriate for you or your child.

Medicare Rebates Available

Eating Disorder Treatment and Management Plan

Eligible clients with an Eating Disorder Treatment and Management Plan may access Medicare rebates for up to 40 psychological treatment sessions over a 12-month period through an Eating Disorder Treatment and Management Plan.

Psychological treatment is generally provided in courses of up to 10 sessions, with reviews required to access further sessions.

A specialist review by a psychiatrist or paediatrician is required after the first 20 psychological treatment sessions if further treatment is needed.

Kerryn accepts Medicare Treatment Plans as a Psychologist, but not as a Dietitian.

Please ensure that your referral is for a Registered Psychologist.
